Safety of Children with Disabilities

We recognise that children with disabilities may communicate, interact and express their needs in different ways. We ensure our programs are delivered with respect, patience and consideration of each child’s individual abilities, communication style and support needs.

Child Participation and Empowerment

We respect children’s voices and encourage them to express their opinions, preferences and concerns. We recognise that children communicate in different ways, including verbal communication, gestures, behaviour, visual supports and other communication methods.

Cultural Safety and Inclusion

We respect and support the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children from all family structures and communities.

Safe and Qualified Workforce

All frontline employees, contractors and volunteers undergo appropriate screening processes, including valid Working with Children Checks (WWCC) where required. Staff receive appropriate training and are expected to maintain professional boundaries, respectful communication and safe practices when working with children.

Safe Physical Environment

We actively identify and manage risks within our facilities, activities and programs to ensure children can participate in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

Reporting, Complaints and Transparency

We provide clear pathways for children, families and carers to raise concerns, provide feedback or report safety issues. All concerns are treated seriously, handled confidentially and responded to appropriately.
